"Why do you have to die to let go?"
Scenes for this "virtual reality" thriller were shot at the Burroughs Wellcome (now known as Glaxo SmithKline) facility in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. The film served as the directorial debut of Douglas Trumball, who had created the special effects for 2001: A Space Odyssey and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Brainstorm is notable for being Natalie Wood's last movie; she died in a mysterious boating accident during production. A double was used to finish some of her scenes. The film also starred Christopher Walken, Cliff Robertson and Louise Fletcher.
