"Haircut 100 - Love Plus One" Video

Amateur Video

A bunch of total geeks in Hawaiian shirts dance around like fuckin' idiots in this pointless exercise in bad taste.

In the early days of MTV, the producers didn't have enough quality videos to fill up 24 hours of time and so they occasionally aired just about any piece-of-shit video they could find such as this "hit" from the album Pelican West. Who could forget the lead singer's shit-eating grin? Every time this dopey video came on I had a strong urge to throw a beer bottle at the screen. The song itself boasts some of the worst lyrics ever written in the history of rock 'n' roll. Something about someone leaving without saying goodbye and going "down to the lake I fear." Then he makes a phone call and it rings forever. Huh?

Formed in England in 1980, Haircut 100 faded out about as quickly as they hit the scene. In addition to "Love Plus One," the group had another annoying video called "Favorite Shirts (Boy Meets Girl)." It sounded exactly like the same song. In 1983, Haircut 100 suffered a severe blow when Heyward left the band to pursue a solo career (one that went absolutely nowhere). They tried a new lead singer but by 1984 they discovered that no one was listening and they disbanded quickly. Does anyone still listen to Haircut 100's music? God, I really hope not. It's too pathetic to even think about. Where are they now? Who the fuck cares?

"Love Plus One" is one of my favorite videos of all time. Of course it's pointless, of course its kooky, but its also a great-sounding song. If all you haters who criticize it because of its stupid lyrics want to read something intellectually stimulating, go find your old high school trig book. This song is about fun--and even the haters have to love Nick Heyward swinging from a vine in the video!

What can you say about them videos from the '80's? They were fun, trashy, raunchy, cheesy, cheap, and just unique! Nowadays, most videos look the same. The 80's were a very unique decade cause of the variety of music, the uniqueness of each band and the videos are some of the best. Haircut 100 was one of my favorites.

It may have been a stupid song, but if you listen to it and watch the video you might understand it. By the way they are not in Hawanian shirts. They just wanted to be playful with love between a boy and a girl. One hit, maybe but they did get there, what about you?

Saw them at the Agora Ballroom in Cleveland with my fake ID in 1982-and believe it or not they sounded good in concert! Amazingly bad videos in the 80's all the way around. But maybe if these perky boys had a better manager back then they may have gone some where.... and maybe not...

Bloody hell...I'll hold back from commenting on what a dreary bugger you must be if you really can't find *anything* to enjoy in this video, but *why*, if it bothers you do much, did you go to all the trouble of putting it up here?

Nick Heyward -- sigh ...
