A former child actor and teen pop queen from Ottawa, Alanis Morissette threw enough attitude into her album Jagged Little Pill to appeal to the teen set. However, some schoolteachers and college professors with nothing better to do voiced their outrage at Alanis' abuse of the word "ironic". Alanis defended herself against the critics by admitting that she wrote her songs in "about 20 minutes."

Alanis captured Best Video by a New Artist and Best Female Video for "Ironic" at the 13th-annual MTV Music Video Awards in 1996. Look for her in concert soon at a shopping mall near you.
