This English synthpop sensation scored a huge hit with "Don't You Want Me" back in the early days of MTV. Now you can hear this tune on a Chips Ahoy commercial - four animated chocolate chip cookies cruising along in a convertible jamming to "Don't You Want Me" as they get picked off one by one by some giant grubby hand. The "Don't You Want Me" music video starts out like some kind of cheap thriller but then we realize that it's just some dumb movie being filmed (probably one of those crappy soft-core, straight-to-video Shannon Tweed flicks). It's really boring and cheesy and the dudes have lipstick on and there's a blonde chick wandering down a deserted highway. Bottom line: This video totally sucks but the song will stick in your head unwanted all day like some virus infecting your brain until you scream out, "Exorcise these demonic, vile lyrics from my fuckin' head, I think I'm going insane!"
"Don't You Want Me" was the biggest hit off of The Human League's Dare album. Some say the lyrics were inspired by the 1954 film, A Star is Born, which starred Judy Garland and James Mason. According to legend, infamous rock critic Lester Bangs was listening to this album when he died of an overdose in 1982.
